We hope everyone enjoyed the Winter Break
with the unexpected snow. It was a beautiful sight to see.
St. Elmo Center for the Gifted second
semester Open House is next Tuesday, February 23 beginning at 6:00. We
will meet in the auditorium for a few minutes and then you will be able
to go to your child's classrooms. We are proud of the work that is done
at St. Elmo and want you to help us celebrate the work of your student.
St. Elmo faculty and staff are excited
with the enrollment of our kindergartners. We appreciate all the
parents and schools working with us to ensure that they will have a
great start in their gifted instruction journey! New parents, please
get involved in the GCAGC organization. We need your involvement!
February is Black History Month. We are
excited to have the staff of the Historic Columbus Foundation visit St.
Elmo during the week of February 22-26 and deliver their Black Heritage
presentation. This presentation will spotlight several of Columbus's
significant and influential black citizens. This presentation is also
aligned with the Georgia Performance Standards grades kindergarten
through high school. We want to thank Leigh Sadler, 4th/5th
grade teacher for arranging this educational presentation for the
students.
We are very excited about a guest speaker in March, Henry Real Bird, a
Crow Indian who is the Poet Laureate of Montana. This opportunity is
collaboration with the Columbus State University History Department and
Dr. Virginia Causey, History Department Chair. This is a wonderful
opportunity for the students and faculty. When we have final dates, we
will send home a note and hope you will join us for this lecture.
Please be sure and go to the Holler Back
at Housand Blog and tell us your thoughts on the services that we offer
your child. Feedback is good for the soul and we want to know your
thoughts.
